Type material examined. Holotype ♂: Br. E. Africa, Kilindini, (Legros); with the labels: “Kilindini, / Brit. E. Afr., / 27.V.99. / (Legros).”; “ Tipulamima / pyrosoma, type ♂. Hmpsn.”; Type”; “Tring / Mus. / 11”; “Rothschild / Bequest / B.M.1939-1.” ( NHMUK).
Diagnosis. Tipulamima pyrosoma is unmistakable due to the unique, almost completely orange-red coloration of the body with strongly contrasting, black abdominal tergites 1–4. So far, this species is only known from the male holotype.
