Type material examined. Holotype ♀: Madagascar Sud-Est, forêt d'Ivondro, au Nord de Fort-Dauphin , Dec.1940, A. Seyrig leg.; with labels: “Forêt d'Ivondro, au N. de Fort-Dauphin”; “ Madagascar ”; “Ivondro”; “Muséum Paris / XII. 40 / A. Seyrig ”; “ HOLOTYPE ”; “ Tipulamima / ivondro n. sp. / Holotype ♀ / P. Viette ” ( MNHN) .

This species has simple, smooth hindlegs and the area between veins R 4 and R 5 opaque, resulting in unusual shapes of external transparent area and apical area. Due to these characters, it belongs most probably to another, yet undescribed genus of the Synanthedonini .
