Diagnosis. [This species was redescribed in detail by Zimin (1960: 729) and Mesnil (1972a: 1040, as Ernestia laevigata ).] Four postsutural dorsocentral setae; 2 presutural acrostichal setae; male inner vertical setae very fine, hair-like and directed forward; anatergite bare; scutellum without apical setae; male 6th abdominal tergite about 1/2 as long as syntergosternite 7+8 and free from the latter, bearing dense long setae.

Descriptionof female terminalia. Sixth abdominal tergite narrowly divided into hemitergites at mid-dorsal portion, with a few strong setae and fine hairs on median portion and a row of some long and strong setae on marginal portion; 6th sternite subequal in length to, or slightly shorter than, 7th sternite, with long and strong setae on median portion; 7th tergite very narrowly divided into hemitergites mid-dorsally, very close to 7th sternite on ventral margin, with some rather fine and strong setae on posterior margin; 7th sternite rather long, with a row of rather short setae, mixed with some short fine hairs, on posterior margin; 8th tergite reduced to small, short and rather high hemitergites, without hairs; 8th sternite rather elliptic in ventral view, with some short fine hairs; epiproct absent, replaced by a pair of rather short and strong setae.

Material examined from Japan (all in KUM). Hokkaido: 10 males, Mts. Daisetu , Tenninkyo, Yukomanbetsu and Aizankei ; 9 males, 1 female, Nukabira; 1 male, 2 females, Tokachi, Shotoshibetsu; 1 male, Ashoro. Honshu: 1 male, Gunma Pref. , Mt. Akagi , Haccho Pass .

Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu); China (Liaoning), Europe (northwards to Scotland and Sweden), Mongolia, Russia (south Siberia, Far East).

Remarks. This species is widely distributed in Europe and not rare, but it is found only in the northern part of Japan.
