Panzeria connivens (Zetterstedt)

( Figs 3–4 View FIGURES 1–6 )

Tachina connivens Zetterstedt, 1844: 1116 . Holotype male (MZLU, not examined). Type locality: Sweden, Skåne.

[For other synonyms see Herting (1984: 104, as Eurithia View in CoL ).]

Diagnosis. This species is characteristic in having a triangularly expanded mid-basal area of the male cerci and a mid-ventral narrow longitudinal membranous incision on more than basal 1/2 of the female 6th abdominal sternite. This species usually bears only 1 posthumeral seta ( Mesnil 1944: 6, fig. 6, Ph; Tschorsnig & Herting 1994: 97, fig. 1, Posthumeralborsten) instead of 2 setae in the similar species P. consobrina . If two setae are present in P. connivens , then the posterior seta is very fine or on only one side of the mesonotum.

Redescription of terminalia. Male: 6th abdominal tergite fused medially with syntergosternite 7+8 and about 1/5 as long as the latter, bearing a row of long and strong setae with fine hairs among them; syntergosternite 7+8 and epandrium shining brown-black, without pruinosity. Female: 6th tergite separated medially into two hemitergites, each hemitergite narrowed above in lateral view, with a row of long and strong setae on posterior margin of upper 2/3; 6th sternite more than 2 times as long as 6th tergite, with many strong setae on posterior 1/2, anteromedian longitudinal portion narrowly incised; 7th tergite separated into hemitergites, shorter than 6th tergite, with a row of rather strong setae on posterior margin; 7th sternite about 3/5 as long as 6th sternite, posteromedian narrow longitudinal portion membranously excavated to more than 1/2 of its length, with fine hairs on posterior 1/2; 8th tergite absent; 8th sternite short and rather wide, with several hairs; epiproct quadrate, with 2 pairs of setae.

Material examined from Japan (all in KUM). Hokkaido: 41 males, 8 females from following localities: Mt. Rausu, 200–900 m; Shiretoko Pass; Kushiro, Akan-machi; Sibecha, Shirarutoro; Mts. Daisetsu, Yukomanbetsu and Aizankei; Ashoro, Berabonai and Kiyokawa; Sorach, Yubaridakei. Honshu: 62 males, 9 females from following localities: Aomori Pref., Towada Lake ; Niigata Pref., Mikuni Pass; Gunma Pref., Mt. Akagi ; Nagano Pref., Mt. Hachimori , Shimashima-tani and Karuizawa; Yamanashi Pref., Mt. Kitadake & Sannose; Saitama Pref., Mt. Buko , Chichibu and Otaki .

Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu); China (Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Xizang), Europe (northward to Ireland, central Sweden), Russia (St Petersburg, Siberia, Far East), Transcaucasia.
