Type species. Opaepele loihi Williams & Dobbs, 1995 .
Emended diagnosis. Rostrum developed but not reaching end of first antennular article; carapace slightly compressed in lateral section, antennal and pterygostomial teeth present; fourth and fifth abdominal somites serrated; posterior margin of telson armed with 2–12 spines; eyestalks partly fused, without papilla; stylocerite separated from first antennular segment; scaphocerite oval, distal lamella exceeding distolateral tooth; first maxilliped with rudimentary exopod; second maxilliped with rudimentary podobranch; pereopods without mastigobranchs; all pleopods provided with well-developed appendix interna.
Composition. Opaepele loihi Williams & Dobbs, 1995 ( Loihi Seamount, off Hawaii, Pacific Ocean) Opaepele susannae Komai, Giere & Segonzac, 2007 (southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 4–9°S), and Opaepele vavilovi sp.n. (northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 26°N).
