Description of song: Chorthippus vagans male calling song generally consists of a long polysyllabic phrase ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 B). The phrase usually lasts for 12–45 s, depending on the number of syllables. Syllable numbers vary from 50 to 200 in a phrase ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 C). The duration of syllables generally changes between 215 and 235 ms ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 D). A syllable starts with lower amplitude pulse at the beginning of the syllable and continues with 7–9 observable high amplitude pulses in the remaining part ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 D).
