= Trichomanes latipinnulata Bonap. (1920a: 28, 29). Type:— MADAGASCAR. Without locality, without date, H. Perrier de la Bâthie 11549 (lectotype P, P00466427!, isolectotype P, P00466426!).

= Trichomanes cornutum C.Chr. in Bonaparte (1920b: 18, 19). Type:— MADAGASCAR. Without locality, without date, L. Humblot 280 (holotype P, P00466432!; isotypes P, P00466430!, P00466431!).

Terrestrial ferns. Rhizomes short-creeping to sub-erect, 0.4–1.0 cm in diameter, bearing long tufted erect red-brown trichomes, and numerous robust roots. Fronds clustered, erect; stipes 5–15 cm long, wingless and canaliculate, bearing occasional trichomes identical to those present on rhizomes, or concentrated on the stipe bases; rachises slightly winged on their upper part and with trichomes similar to those found on the stipes and rhizomes. Laminae 7–30 × 3–9 cm, lanceolate to ovate, bi-pinnate-pinnatifid, less often bi-pinnate, with attenuated apex and usually rounded to obtuse base, translucent and light green; pinnae 1.0–5.0 × 0.6–1.5 cm, sub-horizontal to oblique, basally sub-opposite then alternate, lanceolate to ovate, less often oblong, pinnate; pinnules usually lobed to pinnatifid, lanceolate to ovate and spatulate; ultimate segments or lobes multi-veined with a toothed margin; venation pinnate and anadromous. Sori paratactic, on the acroscopic basal-most lobe of proximal pinnules, 0.8–1.0 × 0.5–0.8 mm, usually a single sorus per pinnule, free, cylindrical to campanulate, truncated or with a slightly dilated mouth; receptacle short to long-exerted.

Distribution and habitat: — Madagascar, Comoros ( Mayotte), terrestrial in the understory of rainforests, at low elevations, from sea level to 500 m ( Table 1).
