C10: Puccinia caricis-amblyolepis Homma, Trans. Sapporo Nat. Hist. Soc. View in CoL 15: 122, 1938. ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13 )

Description: — Spermogonia and aecia not found. Uredinia hypophyllous, scattered, minute, brown to dark brown, covered by epidermis but eventually erumpent. Urediniospores globose, subglobose or obovoid, 22.0–32.0 × 19.6– 25.5 µm (av. 27.0 × 22.5 µm); walls brown, echinulate, 1.1–1.6 µm (av. 1.3 µm), germ pores 2–3. Telia hypophyllous, blackish brown, rounded to broadly elliptic, erumpent. Teliospores broadly clavate, ellipsoid, mostly truncate or rounded at apices, constricted at the septa, attenuate at the bases, 42.0–56.5 × 15.5–21.0 µm (av. 8.5 × 19.0 µm); walls brown, 0.8–1.0 µm (av. = 0.9 µm) thick at sides, 7.5–13.0 µm (av. 9.5 µm) at apices; pedicels persistent, hyaline, 12.5–29.5 µm (av. 19.0 µm) long.

Hosts and distribution in northeastern CHINA ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ): —Uredinia and telia on Carex planiculmis (A, C, D); Carex sp. (D).

Note: —This clade is considered as a single independent species because specimens are clustered together in the phylogenetic analysis. The morphological characteristics of the uredinial and telial stages are in agreement with descriptions of P. caricis-amblyolepis by Ito (1950) and Zhuang et al. (1998). Although spermogonial and aecial stages were not found they are suspected to be produced on Urtica because phylogenetically close species have these stages on Urtica .
