151 Neocalacarus mangiferae Channabasavanna, 1966: 101 .
Type host. Mangifera indica L. ( Anacardiaceae ).
Type locality. Indian Agricultural Research Institute , Delhi, India .
Reports in Brazil. Brasília ( Navia & Flechtmann 2000b) , Distrito Federal.
Relationship to host plant. Vagrants on leaves ( Channabasavanna 1966), causing no apparent symptoms ( Navia & Flechtmann 2000b).
Remark. The female was redescribed and the male was described for the first time from specimens collected in Brasilia ( Navia & Flechtmann 2000b) .
Type host plant status. Exotic fruit tree, widely cultivated in tropical areas of the country ( Lorenzi et al. 2006). Mango is of great economic importance for Brazil, due to high domestic consumption, as well as the high export rate. This fruit is still the most exported fruit by Brazil, and is consumed both fresh and processed in the form of pulps and juices. Though being produced in the entire national territory, mango plantations are mostly concentrated in the Northeast ( Kist et al. 2018).
** Neoprothrix Reis & Navia, 2014 in Reis et al. (2014a: 1137).
Phytoptidae , Sierraphytoptinae , Sierraphytoptini
Remarks. Genus only known from Brazil, up to date monospecific.
152 ** Neoprothrix hibiscus Reis & Navia, 2014 in Reis et al. (2014a:1137).
Type host. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. ( Malvaceae ).
Type locality. Recife (08°01’07’’S, 34°56’41’’W), Pernambuco, Brazil GoogleMaps .
Relationship to host plant. Vagrants, no apparent symptoms ( Reis et al. 2014a).
Remarks. Type species in the genus Neoprothrix , only known from the type host/locality. Originally placed in Phytoptidae , Prothricinae. However after detailed confocal microscopy observations by Chetverikov et al. (2015) it was shown that the two “setae vi ”, a key taxonomic Prothricinae trait, actually constituted internal rod-like apodemes. Then these authors redescribed and transferred Neoprothrix to Sierraphytoptinae , Sierraphytoptini .
Type host plant status. Exotic shrub, widely cultivated as an ornamental, in the different regions as an isolated plant and for formation of rows as a hedge ( Lorenzi & Souza 2001).
