A species showing great variation, even within small populations, in the pubescence of the leaves, scapes, sheath and bracts, and in the size of the leaves, scapes and capitula. It has been reported from S.W. France, Ireland and Scotland, but the records require confirmation.
Intermediates between 32 and 1 occur in intermediate habitats when the species are sympatric.
