Remarks. Valid species described from Senegal ( Gauthier 1951). It is common in India. Several Indian authors recorded this under the taxonomically incorrect name “ D. senegalensis ”, see below.

Distribution. India, South-East Asia and West Africa ( Korovchinsky 2004; Korovchinsky & Sanoamuang 2008).

Diaphanosoma senegalensis Gauthier, 1951

Indian records. Maharashtra — Rane (2005a, 2006); Rajasthan — Venkataraman (1992b); Tamil Nadu — Venkataraman & Krishnaswamy (1984d), Venkataraman (1993a, 1999b).

Remarks. This name was suggested to replace D. senegal , because according to the opinion of Venkataraman & Krishnaswamy (1984d) "the name D. senegal given by Gauthier seems to be inappropriate according to International Rules of Zoological Nomenclature". This idea was not supported by following authors, who concluded that Gauthier's name is grammatically and “ideologically” correct ( Korovchinsky 1992, 2004). So, D. senegalensis is a junior synonym of D. senegal .

Diaphanosoma siddharthii Rao, Padmaja & Naidu, 1998

Type locality. " Viskhapatnam district ", " Srikakulam district " and " Viziangaram district ", Andhra Pradesh, India ( Rao et al., 1998b) .

Indian records. Andhra Pradesh — Rao et al. (1998b).

Remarks. Apparent synonym of D. senegal Gauthier, 1951 ( Korovchinsky 2004) .
