Indian records. Rajasthan — Biswas (1971); Michael & Sharma B.K. (1988), Tamil Nadu —Michael & Sharma B.K. (1988), Venkataraman (1995a, 1999b); Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2002, 2009), Kerala — Subhash Babu & Nayar (2004); Maharashtra — Rane (2005b); West Bengal — Venkataraman & Das (1993), Venkataraman et al. (2000); General record— Fernando & Kanduru (1984), Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).

Remarks. Valid species described from Paraguay ( Stingelin 1906). Raghunathan and Suresh Kumar (2003) recorded “ Simocephalus latirostris Fryer ”, where they incorrectly represented the taxon author.

Distribution. Orlova-Bienkowskaja (2001) wrote that the species distribution is restricted to the Neotropics, although numerous records were from “ Australia, Malay Archipelago, South-East Asia, and Africa”. But, “many authors misuse the name S. latirostris for S. heilongjangensis ” ( Orlova-Bienkowskaja 2001) . At the same time, specimens illustrated by Idris (1983) from Malaysia have morphology typical of S. latirostris instead of S. heilongjangensis .
