Indian records. Assam —Sharma B.K. & Sharma S. (2010); Andhra Pradesh — Siddiqi & Chandrasekhar (1993), Chandrasekhar (2004a); Manipur — Patil (1976); Rajasthan — Biswas (1971) Michael & Sharma B.K. (1988); General record— Fernando & Kanduru (1984), Sharma B.K. & Michael (1987), Murugan et al. (1998), Raghunathan & Suresh Kumar (2003).

Remarks. Described from European Russia ( Fischer 1849). Valid species, but non-Holarctic populations need to be revised. Unfortunately descriptions of specimens from India ( Michael & Sharma 1988) are not detailed enough for any conclusions on their conspecifity with S. serricaudatus s.str.

Distribution. Holarctic, predominantly in its northern portion, but some unrevised populations are found in Chile, New Zealand, Australia ( Paggi 1976; Smirnov 1976, 1992).
