Remarks. Valid species. It was described from Switzerland ( Jurine 1820). A series of revisions predominantly concerning the southern hemisphere ( Frey 1993b; Smirnov et al. 2006; Kotov et al. 2010), has shown that this taxon consists of a number of crypric species. Populations worldwide need to be revised. Biology was studied by Suresh Kumar et al (1999).

Distribution. Cosmopolitan? The detailed distribution of P. aduncus s.str. is unknown, yet it is clear that records of P. aduncus s.lat. show a very wide range, including the Holarctic, Afrotropical region and Oriental region, which likely includes a number of yet to be described regional species.

Pleuroxus aduncus bhigawanensis Rane, 2002

Type locality. “ Bihgawan part of Ujani Wetland, Pune District ; Maharashtra ” ( Rane 2002) .

Indian records. Goa— Rane (2008); Maharashtra — Rane (2002, 2006).

Remarks. No real differences from Pleuroxus aduncus bhigawanensis from P. aduncus s.str. were reported, before a special revision, we need to regard the former as a junior synonym of the latter.
