The following species are transferred from Niphetogryllacris : N. conspersa ( Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1888) , N. indecisa (Griffini, 1908a) , N. vosseleri (Griffini, 1908a) , N. pungens (Griffini, 1911) , N. paulani Chopard, 1952 , N. madagassa (Karny, 1931a) , N. difficilis (Karny, 1932) , N. pittarelli ( Giglio-Tos, 1907) , N. ametroides (Karny, 1931) , N. jacobi (Karny, 1928) , N. kilimandjarica (Sjöstedt, 1910) , N. meruensis (Sjöstedt, 1910) ; N. neglecta Karny, 1937 ; N. submutica and N. signoreti (Griffini, 1908a) are moved to Stictogryllacris Karny, 1937 , as they fit more closely with the diagnostich characters of this genus: Stictogryllacris signoreti (Griffini, 1908a) n. comb., S. indecisa (Griffini, 1908a) n. comb., S. vosseleri (Griffini, 1908a) n. comb., S. pungens (Griffini, 1911) n. comb., S. paulani ( Chopard, 1952) n. comb., S. madagassa (Karny, 1931a) n. comb., S. difficilis (Karny, 1932) n. comb., S. pittarelli ( Giglio-Tos, 1907) n. comb., S. ametroides (Karny, 1931) n. comb., S. jacobi (Karny, 1928) n. comb., S. kilimandjarica (Sjöstedt, 1910) n. comb., S. meruensis (Sjöstedt, 1910) n. comb.; S. neglecta ( Karny, 1937) n. comb.; N. submutica n. comb. and S. conspersa ( Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1888) n. comb., including subspecies described for the latter species, which are similar to S. punctata and to S. quadripunctata in habitus and spot pattern in the face.
It is worth noting that females from Madagascar are different from the continental ones in ovipositor shape. Madagascar ones have a noticeably curved ovipositor with pointy tip (similar to Barombogryllacris ), while continental females tend to have a straight ovipositor with a non-pointy tip. Continental and Madagascar males have the typical terminalia of the genus, which is a pair of hooks in the 10 th tergite and 9 th with a moderately serrulated margin and with a pair of hooks (which vary in size and shape throughout the species) and finaly the subgenital plate has a cleavage with a bi-lobed prolongation that juts out of the styli. Because of the aforementioned, the distribution of the genus widens considerably, even into the island portion of Africa in the Indian ocean.
