Genus Parholaspis Berlese, 1918 View in CoL

Dorsal shield bearing 30 pairs (29 pairs in P. squameus ) of lanceolate and moderately long setae, sometimes with z1 short and smooth. Pre-sternal area with one pair of elongated pre-sternal platelets, fused to form single shield bearing first pair of sternal setae in P. kewensis , absent in a few species. Sternal shield fused to exopodal and peritrematal shields between coxae I–II, bearing three pairs of smooth setae. Metasternal shields with a pair of smooth metasternal setae. Endopodal shield III free and triradiate. Genital shield with one pair of smooth setae st5. Ventrianal shield triangular to subtriangular, with four pairs of pre-anal lanceolate or smooth setae. Peritrematal shields fused to exopodal and parapodal shields, and to sternal shield between coxae I–II. Epistome with a median projection and serrated margins, without lateral extensions. Chelicera chelate-dentate/serrate, fixed digit with several teeth of different sizes, movable digit with 2–3 large teeth sometimes also with small several teeth. Cheliceral seta smooth. Males similar to female, except with a holoventral shield bearing 10 pairs of setae including four or five pairs of pre-anal setae.
