Distribution and habitat. Tupinambis quadrilineatus is widespread in Brazilian Cerrado, and also present in open vegetation enclaves of southern Brazilian Amazonia ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ). It is known from the states of Pará (Amazonian region), Tocantins, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Maranhão, Piauí, Minas Gerais, and in the Distrito Federal (Cerrado). Tupinambis quadrilineatus is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits both cerrado vegetation sensu stricto as gallery forests within the cerrado, where it is found on the ground and hidden inside burrows (Manzane & Abe 1997; Colli et al. 1998; Ferreira et al. 2009; Silva et al. 2009).
