Taxonomy: Mitchell (1935a, 1935 b, 1936a, 1936 b, 1937a, 1937 b 1937c, 1962, 1980); Snelling (1990); Bzdyk (2012); Gonzalez et al. (2019). The Canadian species have been reviewed by Sheffield et al. (2011), but that work is problematic because “large parts of the text for the species descriptions used in that work were taken from the various treatments of the genus Megachile by Mitchell” without attribution ( Sheffield 2020).
