Ensayara J.L. Barnard, 1964: 79 View in CoL .— J.L. Barnard, 1969: 342.— J.L. Barnard & Thomas, 1990: 120 (key to species).— J.L. Barnard & Karaman, 1991: 484.

Type species. Ensayara ramonella J.L. Barnard, 1964 , by original designation.

Included species. Ensayara includes 14 species: Ens. angustipes Ledoyer, 1978 ; Ens. bifurcata Horton, 2008 ; Ens. carpinei Bellan-Santini, 1974; Ens. dentarius Hirayama, 1985 ; Ens. entrichoma Gable & Lazo-Wasem, 1990; Ens. evax sp. nov.; Ens. iara Lowry & Stoddart, 1983; Ens. jumane Barnard & Thomas, 1990; Ens. kermadecensis Kilgallen, 2009 ; Ens. laetum sp. nov. Ens. lozanoi Winfield & Ortiz, 2012; Ens. microphthalma Ledoyer, 1986 ; Ens. ramonella J.L. Barnard, 1964 ; Ens. ursus Kilgallen, 2009 .

Diagnosis. Maxilliped palp article 4 unmodified, claw-like.

Remarks. J.L. Barnard (1964) originally distinguished Ensayara on the claw-like maxilliped palp article 4; the reduced inner plate of maxilla 2 and the mandibular palp which is attached level with the molar. As more species have been described only the maxilliped character remains as a significant distinguishing character.
