Cyathea andina (H.Karst.) Domin, Pteridophyta
status

Cyathea andina (H.Karst.) Domin, Pteridophyta View in CoL 263. 1929.

Range: —Greater Antilles; Andes from Colombia to Bolivia (CO, LP).

Ecology: —Uncommon in the understory of lower montane rainforests; 1150–1650 m.

Notes:— Often confused with other species but easily recognized by the convex contour of the sides of pinnules and segments, the subentire to bluntly crenulate margins, and the concolorous petiole scales. Most similar in pinnule outline are C. cyatheoides (Desv.) K.U.Kramer and C. surinamensis Domin , both from the Guayana Shield and Amazonia mostly north of the Amazonas-Salimoes-river; a sterile and juvenile specimen from Bolivia (Cardenas 3002, F) may represent the latter species. See Lehnert (2011b) for a key to the species of this alliance.
