Range: — Panama to Colombia and Venezuela; Bolivia (LP, SC); Brazil.

Ecology: —Uncommon, only in open places like grass savannas, rock outcrops, etc.; 900–1800 m.

Notes: —This species is often trunkless and may not be recognized as a tree fern in the field. In its preferred habitat, i.e. warm exposed slopes, it is normally the only tree fern present.
