Diagnosis. Mouth is terminal and simple; lips thin without lamellae, fleshy lobes or papillae between lower jaw’s rami. Lower lip projected forward, not folded downwards. Both lips contain minute ciliform teeth or teeth can be absent. Adipose eye fold variably developed, absent in some species. Nostrils quite separated from each other, anterior nostril closer to lip than to posterior nostril. Maxilla slender and weakly curved down posteriorly. When mouth closed, posterior tip of maxilla fully or partially concealed. Ctenoid scales with membranous digitated hind margins. Long pectoral fin reaches to or passed beyond the level of the origin of first dorsal fin. Its insertion is at level or higher than upper eye rim. Pectoral axillary scale large and prominent. Second dorsal fin origin behind one third of anal fin base vertically. Anal fin possesses 3 spines. Long axillary scale on pelvic fin. Caudal fin forked or emarginated.
