Diagnosis. MALE. Clypeus deeply concave ( Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 ); scape ventrally with two parallel carinae; F1 weakly compressed, not wider than F2. Metacoxa flattened with dense erect pale microsetae ( Fig. 7F View FIGURE 7 ). Pronotum and propodeum dorsally with dense pale setae obscuring cuticular sculpture ( Fig. 3C View FIGURE 3 ). T2 laterally with small sparse punctures; T7 with medial triangular impunctate line not forming tubercle posteriorly; cuspis robust, spatulate in inner view ( Fig. 11B View FIGURE 11 ). FEMALE. T2 pale setal spots large, sparsely setose, obscurely defined ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ); distance between T2 spots 0.3–0.5 × spot diameter; pale setal bands on T3–4 complete ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ); pygidial plate entirely with finer micro-reticulation and with irregular sub-rugae anteriorly ( Fig. 12E View FIGURE 12 ); lateral margins of pygidial plate subparallel posteriorly.

Remarks. This species was erected as species by Pagden (1934) from Malaysia. Later, Pagden (1949) regarded it as a continental subspecies of E. amans because no difference in male genitalia was found and other morphological differences were “too slight to have specific significance”. Recently, Williams et al. (2019a) resurrected E. oryzae to full species status on the basis of female morphology, together with the difference in punctation of male T2 included in Mickel’s (1935) key. Here, we follow this treatment and diagnostic characters recognized by Mickel (1935) and Williams et al. (2019a) are included in the key below.
