Pedicel dark brown with margin yellowish, dorsal setae short. Postpedicel dark brown with grey-brownish pilosity, 2.5 times the length of pedicel. Arista brown with base yellowish and pubescent. Palpus dark brown, filiform and flattened.

Thorax: dark-grey; scutum and scutellum dark brown, without vittae; postpronotum, pre-sutural area, notopleural region, ventral spal area and postalar area grey, brown from the last postsutural dc and pre-scutellar setae up to base of scutellum ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Acr 4:4, unordered, increasing in length after the last pair of postsutural dc; 1 weak seta posterior to pre-scutellar setae. Dc 2:3 developed. Postpronotum with two developed setae and a smaller seta. Two pra differentiated from ground setulae, seta near suture more dorsal, area setulose. Pro-epimeral area with long ground setulae. Pre-basal scutellar area with less developed ground setulae. Two pairs of sub-apical scutellar setae. Discal scutellar setae 1 pair. Discal area setulose. Lateral scutellar setae present.

Wing: brownish, with upper third between C vein and half of vein R2+3 darker ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Calypters brown with margins darkened. Haltere yellowish with base brown.

Legs: dark brown with trochanter, apex of fore femur, base of fore tibia yellow-brownish, tarsi darkened and pulvilli yellowish. Fore femur with 1 row of d; anterior surface curved; ventral surface on basal half setulose; 1 row of pv, not uniform, setae more developed on apical half; posterior surface setulose, with long and weak setae with curved apices, apical half with more developed, long setae with hooked apices; 1 row of long pd with hooked apices. Fore tibia with 1 strong pre-apical d; 1 apical v; 1 short apical pv. Fore tarsus with basal v strong on first tarsomere and 1–2 thin and long d; tarsomere slightly flattened. Mid femur weakly constricted on pre-apical ventral surface; 1 row of long ad ending in 4 apical, shorter setae; 1 row of longer av next to one another on basal third and with hooked apices on apical third; 1 row of short v with hooked apices, ending on posterior surface, forming a small ctenidium with the pv; 1 row of long and strong pv with hooked apices, setae decreasing in length on apex of posterior surface; 1 row of a that decrease in length towards apex; posterior surface bare; two rows of pd with hooked apices, ending in 6 longer setae with straight apices. Mid tibia on basal half of ventral surface constricted, setulose on apical half, 2 apical v, one developed and the other short and weak; 1 pre-apical ad; 1 a on edge of apical third; 2 apical av, one developed and the other one short and weak; 1 median and 1 apical pd; 1 pre-apical p; 1 apical pv. Hind coxa with 2 setae on posterior margin. Hind femur on ventral surface with pre-apical protuberance and posterior surface with tumescence on apical third ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 38 – 55 ); 1 row of av that increase in length towards preapical d protuberance, short and weak setae on apical third ending in long, strong and curved setae ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 20 – 37 ); 1 row of p that increase in length and width and end in 6 developed setae on posteroventral surface ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 38 – 55 ); 4 developed pre-apical d; posteriodorsal, posterior, posteroventral and ventral surfaces setulose, with long and weak setae with hooked apices ending on protuberance in a conspicuous tuft of strong and long setae ( Fig. 47 View FIGURES 38 – 55 ). Biology. according to label data, Fannia lamosca sp. nov. is associated with decomposing organic matter in secondary forests, at high and cold elevations (2300 m).

Comments. these characters apply only to the male sex. Fannia lamosca sp. nov. is setulose, with setae generally developed, and the less developed setae with curved apices. It is morphologically close to F. penicillaris of the heydenii group ( Albuquerque et al. 1981). Fannia lamosca sp. nov. belongs to the heydenii group.

Etymology. name in apposition. The species epithet refers to the “La Mosca” Farm, the place where the members of the Grupo de Entomologia, Universidad de Antioquia, collected it. The name is in recognition of the group’s efforts.
