Brownsnout Spookfish. To 18 cm (7.1 in) SL ( Berry and Perkins 1966). Possibly circumglobal, North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans ( Fricke et al. 2020); central California (36°57’N, 122°13’W) (Personal communication: University of Washington, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture Fish Collection, Seattle, Washington) to Chile ( Pequeño 1989). Pelagic; depth: 152–2,160 m (500–7,085 ft) (min.: Eschmeyer and Herald 1983; max.: Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Prokofiev (2020) believes this species is limited to the Atlantic Ocean.
