No spinules at ventral base of fore basitarsus. Legs without remarkable bristling. Third antennal segment very long, and wrinkled (more than six times as long as basally deep), pointed; arista inserted on the broadened base, very short or absent. Face relatively broad. Acr present or absent. Wing without stigma. Surstyli finger-shaped.

Known distribution. Taiwan ( gratiosus ), Japan ( amami , gratiosus ), Laos ( gratiosus ), Nepal ( anomalicerus ), Thailand ( trangensis ), Papua New Guinea ( miricornis ).

Bickel (1999), in redefining the genus Mastigomyia , already expressed his doubts as to the distinctness of this group as a separate genus, because it had been defined only by MSSC.
