Species 15: Teuchophorus parvus View in CoL sp. nov. (male and female) (figures 80–83)

Etymology. Lat. parvus , ‘small’.

Diagnosis. Small species, without stigma. Eyes nearly touching on face. Antenna brown, third segment lighter brown, slightly longer than deep, with a pointed apex. Coxae and legs yellow, but hind femur brownish dorsally and on apical half; hind tarsus browned. (Male) Mid femur anteroventrally with a row of close-set, short bristle-like hairs, that grow longer towards apex of femur (like in T. obliquus sp. nov.). Hind tibia with three short and weak dorsal bristles on apical half, ventrally with a row of short bristle-like hairs. Hypopygium very small.

This species looks like T. obliquus sp. nov., but the hypopygium is distinctly smaller.

Material examined. Type material: Indonesia: Sulawesi, Bantimurung , 17 April 1997,    male and      one male, one female (sample No. 97002, leg. P. Grootaert) .

Male

Body length 1.2–1.4 mm; wing length 1.1–1.2 mm.

Head. Frons and face with greenish black ground colour, feebly shining. Eyes touching each other over a long distance, leaving from face only a small triangle below antennae. Palpi small, black, each with a small, black apical bristlet. Rostrum brown. Occiput blackish. Chaetotaxy as usual; two very small postocellars. Postoculars uniseriate, black. Antenna (figure 80): basal segments dark brown, third segment lighter brown. Marginal bristlets on second segment short, but fairly long dorsally. Third segment triangular, with an acute apex, distinctly longer than deep. Arista about 2.5 times as long as antenna, shortly pubescent; basal aristal segment more than half as long as third antennal segment.

Thorax. Mesoscutum and scutellum metallic greenish black, with purple and brown gloss. Pleurae dark brown; mesopleura with a metallic green gloss. Chaetotaxy as usual; acr uniseriate, rather long. Scutellum without lateral hairs. No propleural bristles or hairs.

Legs. Legs yellow. Mid and hind coxae feebly browned. Hind femur dorsally and on apical half brownish. Hind tarsus feebly browned.

Fore leg. Coxa anteriorly with short, brownish hairs, that become longer and bristle-like below. Femur with two very small, thin preapical pv. Tibia shorter than femur (about 3:4), without bristles or serration. First tarsal segment without spinules at ventral base. Tarsal segments 2–4 short. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.25:0.09:0.03: 0.03: 0.03:0.05.

Mid leg. Coxa with a few short, brownish hairs. Femur (figure 81) posteroventrally with a row of close-set, short bristle-like hairs, that grow longer towards apex of femur, being there nearly as long as apical diameter of femur; a small preapical av. Tibia (figure 81) about as long as femur; two ad, one pd; ventrally two rows of slightly lengthened hairs. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.42: 0.18:0.1: 0.07:0.05:0.06.

Hind leg. Coxa with a weak, black exterior bristle. Femur with two or three hair-like av near tip, one of which is about as long as greatest depth of femur. Tibia about as long as femur; three short, weak dorsal bristles on apical half; ventrally on basal half a double row of short hairs that are hardly as long as diameter of tibia; on apical half a row of three or four bristle-like hairs, hardly as long as diameter of tibia. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.45: 0.1:0.14: 0.09:0.05:0.06.

Wing. Wing (figure 82) feebly brownish tinged, without stigma. Costa not thickened. r4+5 and m1+2 slightly, but distinctly diverging. Halters yellow. Squamae yellow, with broad, dark brown border, and black cilia.

Abdomen. Terga glossy dark brown, with very short, dark hairs and hindmarginal bristlets. Sterna dark brown. Hypopygium (figure 83) very small, yellowish brown.

Female

Body length 1.45 mm; wing length 1.4 mm.

Face narrow, slightly more than half as wide as depth of third antennal segment. Legs very feebly bristled. Fore femur with a minute preapical pv. Mid femur with a small preapical av. Mid tibia with two ad, one pd and one av. Hind tibia with three or four small dorsal bristles on apical half, and a small pv. Oviscapt with eight very small, black acanthae.
