Genus Philaenus Stål, 1864 View in CoL View at ENA

The species of this genus include the most polymorphic of Auchenorrhyncha ( Drosopoulos, 2003, Drosopoulos et al., 2010). Eight species are now recognized, including some that have been described by careful study of the widely distributed Philaenus spumarius (L.) (e.g. Abdul-Nour & Lahoud, 1995; Drosopoulos & Remane, 2000; Remane & Drosopoulos, 2001). Tishechkin (2013) described two new Philaenus species from Iran, but he did not find Ph. spumarius among the specimens he studied.
