Type material. ♁. Ceph.th.: long. 6 mill.; lat. 5,2 mill. Forêt de Catuche , près Caracas, et pentes septentrionales de la Silla; Petare, près Caracas. Label 1. Phaeoclita fauna Simon, 1889 , Venezuela: Caracas, Simon, E. leg. Label 2. Lectotype and paralectotype Indicatti R.P. det. 2007, collection Simon no 9868 .

Type designation. Male lectotype and female paralectotype designated here [coll. Simon no 9868].

Diagnosis. Males most resemble B. gaujoni but can be distinguished from all species by the combination of the following characters: eight ventral spines on tibia I ( Fig. 15C View FIGURE 15 ), absence of tubercle on metatarsi I ( Fig. 15C View FIGURE 15 ) present in the latter ( Fig. 34A View FIGURE 34 , arrow). Females are distinguished from all species by elongated, straight spermathecae, and elongated, externally positioned lobes ( Fig. 17C View FIGURE 17 ).

Distribution. Venezuela.

Note. In 1926, Petrunkevitch mentioned a female from St. Thomas clearly stating that the description of Simon does not allow for certain identification and that his specimens from St. Thomas could be another species. Raven (1985) provided the first accurate images of the male syntype. A lectotype and paralectotype label were found in the jar, presumably written by Indicatti R. P. in 2007, but we were unable to find in the literature a formal type designation.
