TYPE LOCALITY: Iraq .

DISTRIBUTION: Steppe and semi-desert from Syria, Jordan and N. Saudi Arabia through Iraq to Asia Minor and the Caucasus and east through N. Iran and Afghanistan.

COMMENT: Includes williamsi , laticeps , and schmidti; see Corbet, 1978:155, and Harrison, 1972, The mammals of Arabia, 3:408. Many Russian authors employ the name williamsi for this species; see Gromov and Baranova, 1981: 118.
