Geocapromys brownii (Fischer, 1830) View in CoL . Synopis. Mamm., Addenda, p. 389 (=589).
TYPE LOCALITY: Jamaica .
DISTRIBUTION: Jamaica and Little Swan Isl.
COMMENT: Includes thoracatus from Little Swan Isl.; see Hall, 1981:866, and Varona, 1974:67. Clough, 1976, Biol. Conserv., 10:43-47, stated that thoracatus is extinct. Although most recent workers list thoracatus as a subspecies of brownii , it is quite different and probably should be regarded as a distinct species (GSM, CAW).
ISIS NUMBER: 5301410024002001001.
