TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Santiago-Zamora Prov., Gualaquiza .
DISTRIBUTION: S.E. Honduras to N.E. Peru and Amazonian Brazil.
COMMENT: Formerly included amphichoricus ; see Reig et al., 1980:291-312, in Voronstov and Van Brink, eds., Animal genetics and evolution, Junk, The Hague, who also employed the name centralis for animals assigned to semispinosus from N. Venezuela.
