1. Opercular spine prominent, pungent, raised laterally as bony ridge basally. Corner of mouth posterior to vertical through anterior edge of orbit. First dorsal fin with 8 (rarely 9) spines. Inner surface of pectoral fin black basally and black with dark olive green tint distally, the areas separated by somewhat diagonal narrow pale blue band angled from near base dorsally toward distal margin ventrally ............ 2. Anterior margin of rostral process with broad obtuse angle or straight, with prominent forward directed blade-like spine at each corner often mounted on somewhat triangular base. Second dorsal fin with 14 or 15 (rarely 16) soft rays. Inner surface of pectoral fin olive green with prominent black oval area posteriorly at base superimposed with pale blue spots.... ...........................................................
