Cyclodus Brandtii STRAUCH (1866a: col. 459)

Holotype: ZISP 372, “Africa septentrionalis”. Leg.: L. Parreyss, 1839.

Present name: Scincopus fasciatus fasciatus Peters, 1864 fide Schleich et al. (1996).

Remarks: Strauch (1866a) clearly stated that only a single type specimen was present. This species served as the type of the subgenus Otolepis Strauch, 1866 by monotypy. Description of C. brandtii was published in two different versions (see literature cited). The description appeared on column (page) 459 in Strauch (1866a) and page 775 of Strauch (1866b), accounting for the occasional confusion regarding the correct page citation associated with the name. A great number of authors cited the article in Mélanges biologiques tirés du Bulletin de l'Académie Impériale des Sciences de St. Pétersbourg ( Strauch 1866b). However, it should be noted that the articles in Mélanges was published after the publication of primary volumes of the Bulletin de l'Académie Impériale des Sciences de St. Pétersbourg, of which some of the articles were reprinted ( Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004).
