Herpetosaura arenicola View in CoL PETERS (1854: 619)

Paralectotype: ZISP 5321 View Materials (one specimen), “ Lorenzo-Marques ” [Maputo, Mozambique] . Received from the ZMB in 1868.

Present name: Scelotes arenicolus ( Peters, 1854) fide Bauer et al. (2003).

Remarks: The lectotype (designated by Broadley, 1994) is NMW 19059 from “ Inhambane ”. Additional paralectotypes are ZMB 4818, 9413 from “Lourenzo Marques” [Maputo, Mozambique] and ZMB 9414, 9415, 9415A from “ Inhambane ” [Inhambane, Mozambique] ( Bauer et al. 2003). This is the type species by monotypy of the genus Herpetosaura Peters, 1854 .
