Ablepharus Brandtii STRAUCH (1868a: 368)

Syntypes: ZISP 2414.1-3 (three specimens), " Oalyk-Tau " [ Agalyk , vicinity of Mirankul, Samarqand Province, Uzbekistan] . Leg.: A. Lehmann, 1841.— ZISP 2415.1-4 , 4 specimens, " Oalyk-Tau " [ Agalyk , vicinity of Mirankul, Samarqand Province, Uzbekistan]. Leg.: A. Lehmann, 1841.

Present name: Ablepharus pannonicus (Lichtenstein, 1823) fide Eremchenko & Szczerbak (1986) and Anderson (1999).

Remarks: Additional syntypes are BM 1946.8.18.47 (ex 72.5.30.15) from “Oalyk-tau” (Arnold, 1999); ZMB 1346 (2 specimens) from “Bucharei” and ZMB 8717 from “Samarkand” ( Bauer et al. 2003). Description of A. brandtii was published in two different versions (see literature cited). The description appeared on column (page) 368 in Strauch (1868a) and page 565 of Strauch (1868b), accounting for the occasional confusion regarding the correct page citation associated with the name. A great number of authors cited the article in Mélanges biologiques tirés du Bulletin de l'Académie Impériale des Sciences de St. Pétersbourg ( Strauch 1868b). However, it should be noted that the articles in Mélanges was published after the publication of primary volumes of the Bulletin de l'Académie Impériale des Sciences de St. Pétersbourg, of which some of the articles were reprinted ( Bogutskaya & Naseka 2004).
