Distribution. Western Atlantic— Brazil (Maranhão, Pernambuco, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul), Uruguay, Argentina ( Coelho 1963; Bremec & Cazzaniga 1984; Silva et al. 1989; Werding et al. 2003; Coelho et al. 2007; Miranda et al. 2014; Ferreira & Melo 2016; Spivak et al. 2019).

Remarks. Pachycheles laevidactylus inhabits the intertidal region, in mussel beds, algae tufts, under rocks, associated with bryozoans, polychaetes ( Veloso & Melo 1993; Micheletti-Flores & Negreiros-Fransozo 1999; Miranda et al. 2014; Ferreira & Melo 2016) and on mussel farming ropes ( Macedo et al. 2012). In the original description of Pachycheles chubutensis, Boschi (1963) described the morphological similarity between the new species and Pachycheles laevidactylus (as Pachycheles haigae ). The validity of both as distinct species was confirmed by morphological and molecular analysis ( Miranda et al. 2014). Sequences accession numbers (GenBank): CCDB 2379—16S ( MF490160 View Materials ), COI ( MF490056 View Materials ) ( Mantelatto et al. 2018).
