Scalpellum hirsutum Hoek, 1883: 88 , pl. IV, fig.19; Gruvel, 1905: 66, fig.74; Pilsbry, 1907a: 25.
Arcoscalpellum hirsutum: Newman & Ross, 1971: 62–64 , fig. 28.
Trianguloscalpellum hirsutum: Zevina, 1981a: 309 , fig. 233; Chan et al., 2009: 119–121, figs 100–102; Jones, 2012: 371, 376.
Material examined. None – the holotype is lost, Stn 196: Pacific, Western Central (Molucca Sea); 1508 m.
Supplementary descriptions. Newman & Ross (1971) and Chan et al. (2009).
Distribution. Pacific, Western Central and Southeast. Known depth range 1508 to 1965 m.
Habitat. On rocks and gastropod shells.
Remarks. Newman & Ross (1971) tentatively related this species to the Arcoscalpellum michelottianum group. In the absence of the holotype, a neotype designation may help to establish and stabilise the systematic position of this species.
