Cryptophyllus sp. P4

(Pl. II: Fig. 15)

2013 Eridoconcha sp. P1; Maillet: 93, pl. XI, figs. 22–23.

Material. 12 specimens (4 C, 7 V, 1 F).

Description. Medium-sized carapace, sub-triangular in lateral view. Moult retention ostracod with at least 9, rather tenuous, exuviae. Almost straight dorsal margin. Rounded umbo prominent over dorsal margin at middorsal. Anterior and posterior cardinal angles of about 150°. Free margins of the carapace describing a regular bow. Anterior and posterior margins flattened. Posterior part of the carapace slightly higher than the anterior one. Hmax at 2/5 anterior; Lmax almost median; Wmax clearly dorsal and slightly anterior (umbo). Overlap of the valves unknown. Surface smooth (?).

Discussion. These specimens with a rather large carapace for Eridostracina could remind the Eridoconcha genus regarding the large number of exuviae. However, their carapaces are not as ovate as it is usual in this last genus, no admarginal structures are observed and the large umbo and arrangement of exuviae remind the Cryptophyllus genus.

Occurrence. Middle and Upper Givetian (Candás Fm, mbs C and D), Asturias (Peran-Perlora and Carranques sections).
