Diagnose. An Ulomyia species with eye bridge of six facet rows; antenna with all flagellomeres separate, first flagellomere with strong setae; thorax with bilobed patagia with an apical bulb; gonostyles longer than gonocoxites, ejaculatory apodeme as long as gonostyli.

Material: holotype, 1♂, Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Avintes ( Parque Biológico de Gaia ), 41°06′00.0″N, 8°33′35.3″W, 22 October 2010, 50m a.s.l.; GoogleMaps paratypes, 1♂, Vila Real, Montalegre, Pitões das Júnias (Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês), 41°49′48.7″N, 7°57′01.3″W, 970– 1.100m a.s.l., 10 September 2012 GoogleMaps ; 1♂, Guarda, Manteigas, São Pedro (Nave de Santo António, Parque Natural da Serra da Estrela ), 40°19′07.0″N, 7°34′37.4″W, 1.550m a.s.l, 24 July 2013; GoogleMaps 1♂, ibidem, 21 September 2013 GoogleMaps , 2♂, Espinhosela, Bragança, Parque Natural de Montesinho , 41°53’08.2”N, 6°49’37.4”W, 793m a.s.l., 9 September 2014 GoogleMaps ; 2♂, Guarda, Seia, Vide e Cabeça, 40°19’02.96”N, 7°43’54.11”W, 430m a.s.l., 1 September 2011. Description: Head with an eye-bridge of 6 facet rows, in some specimens with 1 or 2 rows of 7 facets arranged asymmetrically; antenna typical of the genus with robust scape, globular pedicel and an elongate first flagellomere with a line of 5–6 strong setae (lost in all specimens). Relative length of scape, pedicel and flagellomeres: 51– 30–61–48–34–34–32–31–31–29–28–25–27–19–19–25. Flagellomeres 2–11 with a pair of short digitate ascoids, subsequent flagellomeres with pairs of short pegs. Absolute length: 0.13–0.08–0.16–0.13–0.09–0.09–0.08–0.08– 0.08–0.08–0.07–0.07–0.07–0.05– 0.05–0.07 mm. Palpus with 4 segments, terminal segment striated; relative length: 49–100–84–121; absolute length: 0.13–0.26– 0.22–0.32 mm.

Wing brownish translucent, 2.3–2.5 times longer than greatest width; wing length 2.52 mm (holotype), in paratypes 2.44–3.15 mm; radius and media forks in basal third of wing, wing tip near the end of R 4.

Thorax with a pair of bilobed patagia, lobes short; from the lobes arises a thinly sclerotized expandable structure with an apical spherical bulb, in its center is an area with spherical cuticular-knobs.

Abdomen with epandrium rectangular with round corners, a pair of small openings at about center. Epandrial appendages curved with 6 or 7 tenacula. Hypandrium broad, the middle part even broader. Gonocoxite slightly bent, 1.2 times longer than wide, gonostyli 2x longer than gonocoxites, basally wide, curved, width decreasing apically, with a subapical seta. Aedeagus as usual in the genus, the ejaculatory apodeme as long as gonostyli and more than 2x longer than the aedeagus.

Etymology: The species name is derived from the Iberian Peninsula.

Comment: The morphological variation in the male terminalia, particularly the aedeagus in the genus Ulomyia (s. str.) is comparatively small; on the other hand, there are obvious differences in wing morphology. Ulomyia fuliginosa (Meigen) and U. plumata (Tonnoir) possess central pockets decorated with black androconia. In U. undulata (Tonnoir) and U. hispanica (Sarà) —probably a synonymy, the costal vein is incurved, and radial and medial forks are extremely close to the wing base. Wings of U. mirabilis (Sarà) from Italy are even broader and the radial and medial forks are even closer to the wing base. Patagia (scent organs on mesothorax) of all species are similar in shape with an expandable structure and a lockable spherical tip that hides the pheromone containing cuticular knobs which are displayed during courtship ( Elger 1981; Feuerborn 1922).
