Polemon neuwiedi (Jan, 1858)

MATERIAL EXAMINED. — No available specimen.

DISTRIBUTION. — In Togo, this species has been mentioned from “Klien Popo”, now Aneho, by Sternfeld (1908a-b, 1909) and Loveridge (1944: 173). Werner (1898; as Miodon gabonensis ) mentioned from Togo a specimen of Polemon gabonensis (Duméril, 1858) . The current distribution of this species extends from eastern Nigeria to Congo ( Chippaux 2006). It is hence likely that Werner’s specimen should be referred to Polemon neuwiedi , although another taxon of the same genus cannot be ruled out. This confusion may also apply to the Togolese record of Polemon collaris (Peters, 1881) in Werner (1898) . This author was merely followed by Sternfeld (1908b, 1909) but Loveridge (1944) doubted about the occurrence of this latter species in Togo.

Prosymna gregerti Mocquard, 1906 ( Fig. 7 View FIG )

MATERIAL EXAMINED. — 1 specimen ( MNHN 2006.2190), Mango.

MORPHOLOGY. — TL 273 mm; 15 MSR, smooth; 151 Ven smooth; 35 Sc; anal single; 5 supralabials; 7 infralabials; 1 preocular; 2 postocular; temporal scale formula 1 + 2 + 3.

DISTRIBUTION. — This species inhabits Sudan savannahs (ER I). Previously it had been described from Togo (Mango) by Sternfeld (1908b) as Prosymna meleagris var. collaris Sternfeld, 1908 . This form was subsequently synonymized with Prosymna meleagris (Reinhardt, 1843) by Loveridge (1958). Trape & Mané (2006b) revalidated Prosymna gregerti Mocquard, 1906 as a valid taxon. This species was mentioned fom northern Togo by Villiers (1951) and Villiers & Condamin (2005).
