Variation. Studied material from Peru and Ecuador is rather uniform with minor variation in structure and colour pattern. Two females from Allpahuayo ( Peru) possess antennae with weak, inconspicuous pale median bands. Upper half of head is sometimes rather extensively fuscous, but always with two conspicuous orange or reddish marks at top of eye orbits.

Remarks. The species is reported for the first time from South America. Specimens from Peru and Ecuador differ somewhat from Costa Rican specimens, in particular in having a fuscous marks on frons, vertex and temple, longer distance between propodeal spiracle and pleural carina (0.5–1.5 diameters of spiracle in Amazonian material and 0.5 diameters or less in Costa Rican material), and usually shorter and broader basal area of propodeum. Otherwise Amazonian populations are morphologically similar to the Costa Rican population, and we believe that this is geographical variation. Further study of material from e.g. Colombia and Panama will probably confirm or reject this hypothesis.
