Calapnita bariengi View in CoL sp. nov. Figs 142–155 View FIGURES 142 – 155

Diagnosis. Distinguished from most other species of vermiformis group (except C. bario ) by distal cheliceral apophyses not bipartite ( Figs 146, 154 View FIGURES 142 – 155 ) and by shape of procursus (sclerotized ventral flap pointed dorso-distally, very simple dorsal part; Figs 142–143, 150–151 View FIGURES 142 – 155 ); from several species also by narrow and distinct epigynal ‘knob’ ( Fig. 148 View FIGURES 142 – 155 ), and by oval pore plates converging anteriorly and close together ( Fig. 149 View FIGURES 142 – 155 ).

Etymology. The species is named for Tun Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Temenggong Jugah anak Barieng (1903– 1981), long-time chief of the Iban people, widely known for his statement “Do not be like the sugar cane, sweet at the beginning but tasteless at the end”.

Material examined. Holotype. MALAYSIA-BORNEO: ♂, ZFMK ( Ar 16023), Sarawak, Niah Cave National Park, forest near headquarters (3.820°N, 113.763°E), 40 m a.s.l., night collecting, undersides of leaves, 28.vii.2014 (B.A. Huber, S.B. Huber). GoogleMaps

Other material. MALAYSIA-BORNEO: 1♂ 3♀, ZFMK (Ar 16024), same data as holotype.

Assigned tentatively. MALAYSIA-BORNEO: 1♂, ZFMK (Ar 16025), Sarawak, near Kapit, forest along river (1.937– 1.944°N, 112.904– 112.910°E), 80–120 m a.s.l., underside of leaf, 20.vii.2014 (B.A. Huber, S.B. Huber) GoogleMaps ; 1♂ in absolute ethanol, ZFMK (Bor 186), same data GoogleMaps .

Description. Male (holotype)

MEASUREMENTS. Total body length 4.6, carapace width 0.65. Leg 1: 29.9 (7.7 + 0.3 + 6.6 + 12.8 + 2.5), tibia 2: 5.1, tibia 3: 3.1, tibia 4: 5.6; tibia 1 L/d: 120. Distance PME-PME 180 µm, diameter PME 90 µm, distance PME- ALE ~30 µm; no trace of AME.

COLOR. Entire animal pale gray to whitish, legs slightly yellowish with brown patellae and tibia-metatarsus joints.

BODY. Habitus as in close relatives (see e.g., Figs 120, 122 View FIGURES 120 – 127 ); ocular area barely elevated, each triad on very low hump; carapace without median furrow; clypeus unmodified; sternum slightly wider than long (0.46/0.44), unmodified.

CHELICERAE. As in Figs 146–147 View FIGURES 142 – 155 , apophyses near lamellae not bipartite, pair of slender lateral processes; without modified hairs; without stridulatory ridges.

PALPS. In general similar to C. vermiformis (cf. figs 139 and 140 in Huber 2011); trochanter apophysis as in Fig. 145 View FIGURES 142 – 155 , with tiny tubercles and distinct subdistal process; femur as in Fig. 144 View FIGURES 142 – 155 , distal process at 49% of femur length; tibia length/diameter 0.55/0.26; procursus as in Figs 142–143 View FIGURES 142 – 155 , with simple ventro-distal flat sclerite; bulb length 0.32; embolus length 0.60.

LEGS. Without spines and curved hairs; few vertical hairs; retrolateral trichobothrium on tibia 1 at 2%; prolateral trichobothrium absent on tibia 1, present on other tibiae; tarsus 1 pseudosegments not visible in dissecting microscope.

Male (variation). Tibia 1 in other male from type locality: 6.4. The specimens from Kapit are slightly larger (1♂ measured: leg tibia 1: 7.0; palpal tibia length/diameter 0.61/0.30; bulb length 0.42; embolus length 0.73), and differ slightly in shapes of male palps and chelicerae ( Figs 150–155 View FIGURES 142 – 155 ); they are therefore assigned tentatively.

Female. In general similar to male; eye triads slightly closer together (distance PME-PME 155 µm). Tibia 1 in 4 females: 5.4, 5.6, 6.0, 6.2. Epigynum as in Fig. 148 View FIGURES 142 – 155 , weakly sclerotized triangular plate with small and slender anterior ‘knob’; internal genitalia as in Fig. 149 View FIGURES 142 – 155 , with pore plates close together. ALS with only two spigots each (checked with light microscope).

Distribution. Known from two localities in Sarawak ( Fig. 283 View FIGURE 283 ).
