Selaginella leucoloma Alston ex Crabbe & Jermy, Fern Gaz. 11(4): 262, f. 4C, D. 1976.

Range: —Southern Peru to Bolivia (LP).

Ecology: —Uncommon or probably overlooked; saxicolous in humid forests, usually growing among mosses on rocks; 1400–1600 m. Dies back each year in the dry season and resprouts from spores or stolon (sobol) buds in the wet season.

Notes: —Both this species and Selaginella chionoloma have the median leaves and the acroscopic side of the lateral leaves with broad, hyaline margins, but the latter species has long-aristate median leaves (also on the stem bases) and often flagelliform stem apices (vs. non-flagelliform). Selaginella leucoloma may also be confused with S. popayanensis but the latter has ciliate, obtuse, adaxially minutely hairy lateral leaves (vs. entire, acute, adaxially glabrous) and median leaves lacking white margins.
