Range: —Mountains from southern Mexico to Venezuela and Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).

Ecology: —Common; terrestrial, rarely on rocks or cliffs, in humid forests, ravines and thickets; 1600–3200 m.

Notes: —More delicate than S. trisulcata . Selaginella kunzeana A.Braun from the mountains of Mexico to Peru, may occur in Bolivia. It differs from S. silvestris and S. trisulcata by its more triangular lateral leaves with a conspicuous basiscopic auricle (vs. auricles lacking). The distal portion of the main stems, and often the primary branches, have a somewhat rhomboid shape with acute apices (vs. ovate, obtuse in S. silvestris ).
