Selaginella haematodes (Kunze) Spring View in CoL , in Martius, Fl. Bras. 1:(2): 16. 1840.

Range: — Panama to Venezuela, Amazonian Brazil ( Valdespino 2015a), and Bolivia (BE, CO, LP, SC).

Ecology: —Common; terrestrial along riverbanks, on steep, moist hillsides, and in humid forests; to 1500 m.

Notes: —A common, large species readily recognized by its erect, red stems, and the minutely denticulate to entire lateral leaves. This has more regularly arranged branches than either Selaginella anceps or S. erythropus .
