Tibicen figuratus (Walker) View in CoL (Figs. 15, 52–60)

Fidicina figurata Walker 1858: 19 View in CoL . Type locality: unknown. The collection locality for the holotype female was unknown to Walker. Holotype is in the Natural History Museum, London.

Adults first emerge in late-July and can be heard singing until mid-October. There is one record of a specimen collected in Pompano (Broward Co.) on 5 December. This date is almost two months past other collection dates so it is considered unlikely. The most common collection dates are between mid-August and mid-September. No analysis of the song has been published but it is probably similar to T. auletes View in CoL and T. resonans View in CoL as all the large species of Tibicen View in CoL in the U.S. have similar songs (personal observation).

There are records of Tibicen figuratus from 14 Florida counties: Alachua, Bay, Brevard, Broward, Dade, Franklin, Hillsborough, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Nassau, Palm Beach, and Walton (Fig. 15). The distribution of T. figuratus is primarily in the forested areas of the Southeastern Plains and Southern Coastal Plains ecoregions without records from the Everglades. There are additional records from the Miami Ridge/ Atlantic Coastal Strip of the Southern Florida Coastal Plain ecoregion.
