Body of small to moderate size, slender. Head not exserted; vertex generally wider than one eye; antennae thin and long, inserted above or below lower margin of eyes. Pronotum transverse anteriorly, subulate posteriorly, hind process extending far beyond the top of hind femora; posterior angles of lateral lobes of pronotum with a strong spine projecting outwards. Hind wing beyond or not beyond the top of hind process.

Species of the genus Falconius Bolivar differ from species in other genera by the third segment of posterior tarsus of female distinctly expanded. The species of Falconius are typical inhabitants of moist places in tropical rainforests, such as rotten wood of marshes, boscage and moist stony on the border of streams. They are capable of swimming on the water surface, and readily leap into the water when alarmed. They feed on mosses and other forms of humus. They generally overwinter as adults.
