Diagnosis. Brachycyrtus veriatrix can be differentiated from other Neotropical Brachycyrtus by the combination of the following characters: scuto-scutellar groove deeply impressed in a "U"-shape; propodeum granulate with sparse setae, area anterolateral black, area superomedia confluent with area petiolaris, anterior transverse carina present only medially, area dentipara not delineated, area posteroexterna and area coxalis closed, lateral longitudinal carina anteriorly incomplete extending forward from the area posteroexterna ( Figs. 48D, 48G View FIGURE 48 ; 49E–F View FIGURE 49 ).

Variation (n=45). Body length 6.00– 6.51 mm. Antenna length 4.70–5.50 mm; 31–34 flagellomeres. Ocellus diameter 0.25–0.28 mm; distance between the anterior and posterior ocellus 0.07–0.10 mm; shortest distance between the posterior ocellus and the compound eye 0.05–0.06 mm; distance between the posterior ocellus 0.24– 0.26 mm. Front view, eye height 0.74–0.81 mm. Frons width 0.52–0.54 mm. Face width 0.44–0.48 mm. Malar space 0.05–0.06 mm. Basal mandible width 0.12–0.13 mm. Fore wing length 3.77–4.27. Hind wing length 2.55–2.75 mm. Length tergite 1 0.96–1.08 mm. basal width tergite 1 0.19–0.24 mm. apical width tergite 1 0.19–0.27 mm. Length tergite 2 0.93–1.00 mm; basal width tergite 2 0.28–0.30 mm; apical width tergite 2 0.43–0.54 mm. Length tergite 3 0.67–0.69 mm; basal width tergite 3 0.45–0.55 mm; apical width tergite 3 0.58–0.66 mm. Length ovipositor 1.45–1.63 mm. The tegula is entirely black.

Geographical records. Brazil (Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia, São Paulo, Amazonas*, Bahia *, Espírito Santo *, Roraima *), Costa Rica, Ecuador, Venezuela and Mexico ( Gauld & Ward 2000; González-Moreno & Bordera 2011; Onody et al. 2009; Yu et al. 2016; Fernandes et al. 2023) ( Fig. 50 View FIGURE 50 ).

Biological note. The host of this species is so far unknown. B. veriatrix can be collected in different Brazilian ecosystems, such as: wetlands of the pantanal, cerrado and areas where there is organic and conventional agriculture practice ( Onody et al. 2009), are also found in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest.

Discussion. B. veriatrix is morphologically similar to B. cosmetus , ocelli forming an isosceles triangle and mainly in the set of carinae of the propodeum, propodeum granulate with sparse setae, area basalis septate and not laterally delineated, area superomedia confluent with area petiolaris, area externa and area spiracularis confluent, area dentipara and area lateralis not anteriorly delineated, area posteroexterna and coxalis closed, lateral longitudinal carina anteriorly incomplete extending forward from the area posteroexterna, posterior transverse carina incomplete centrally. In B. cosmetus anterior transverse carina complete to pleural carina ( Figs. 33D, 33G View FIGURE 33 , 34E–F View FIGURE 34 ). In contrast, in B. veriatrix anterior transverse carina present only medially ( Figs. 48D, 48G View FIGURE 48 , 49E–F View FIGURE 49 ).

Remarks. Additional characters from the material examined of the states of Amazonas, Bahia, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, São Paulo, and Espírito Santo ( Brazil) (n=45) (♀ and ♂) are the following: Head. Front view ( Figs. 48B View FIGURE 48 , 49C View FIGURE 49 ), mandible bidentate. Frons punctate with fine setae, polished and convex. Face convex, punctate with fine setae, polished. Mesosoma. Dorsal view ( Figs. 48E View FIGURE 48 , 49B View FIGURE 49 ), mesoscutum with notaulus present, barely discernible. Scutellum punctate with sparse fine setae, as wide as it is long, moderately convex. Lateral view ( Figs. 48A View FIGURE 48 , 49A View FIGURE 49 ), propleuron polished with sparse fine setae. Groove in the posterior portion of the pronotum. Mesopleuron polished, punctate with fine setae; epicnemial carina ascending about middle from the anterior margin of the mesopleuron and ventrally approaching the posterior carina of the sternum; sternaulus short. Metapleuron punctate with sparse fine setae. Wings. Fore wing, 2m-cu with two bullae. Hind wing abscissa CU spectral. Metasoma. apex of ovipositor lanceolate, without teeth and without nodus ( Figs. 48F View FIGURE 48 ).
