Type locality. — W Java, Cibodas Gedeh National Park .

Type material.— Holotype ♂ from the type locality, 1500-1600 m, leaf litter, xi.1986, S. Djojosudharmo; paratypes: 2 ♂, 2 ♀, same data.

Other material.— W Java, Bogor, Puncak Pass , 1 ♀, appr. 1000 m, near lake in evergreen forest, 16.viii. 1980, P.R. and C.L. Deeleman .

Diagnosis.— A species in which the epigyne has extraordinary large black openings. It can be distinguished from other species by the pale patellae, contrasting with darker femora and tibiae, the carapace less elongate than in T. rhino and in the male by the palpal tibia with reduced distal apophysis.

Description.— MALE. Total length 4.65 mm. Carapace length 2.10 mm, width 1.50 mm, width head 0.75 mm, width eye group 0.65 mm; abdomen length 2.50 mm, width 1.50 mm. Leg length: leg I 7.50 mm (1.75-2.80-1.85-1.10); leg II 5.85 mm (1.45-2.15-1.35- 0.90); leg III 4.90 mm (1.25-1.60-1.30-0.75); leg IV 6.70 mm (1.75-2.20-1.65-1.10), palp 0.60-0.25- 0.25-0.65 mm. Colour of carapace, mouthparts, sternum and legs as in preceding species, legs with red-orange femora and tibiae, patellae, tip of tibia, metatarsi and tarsi pale. Abdominal colour pattern and scuta similar to those in T. rhino , pre-anal black circle interrupted in the middle. Eyes as in rhino . Femur I with 2pl, tibia I 8 pv, 7-8rv, tibia II 7-8 pv, 7rv, metatarsus I 4 pv, 5rv, metatarsus II 5 pv, 3rv. Male palp figs 824-825 View Figs 824 - 827 , distal apophysis of tibia reduced.

FEMALE. Length 4.60 mm. Carapace length 2.25 mm, width 1.50 mm, head width 0.85 mm, eye group width 0.70 mm, abdomen length 2.90 mm, width 2.10 mm, epigyne 0.45 mm wide, 0.45 mm long. Leg lengths: leg I 8.05 mm (2.00-3.00-2.00-1.05), leg II 6.15 mm (1.55-2.30-1.40-0.90), leg III 5.30 mm (1.35-1.75-1.40-0.80), leg IV 7.30 mm (1.85- 2.40-2.00-1.05), palp 0.70-0.30-0.35- 0.60 mm. Abdomen as in rhino , collar short, with 1- 2 grooves. Spine formula as in the male. Epigyne fig. 826 View Figs 824 - 827 ; vulva fig. 827 View Figs 824 - 827 , with very large round anterior openings which are filled with a black substance in all females studied. The black substance cannot be removed with a needle. Coiled ducts connect the openings with elongate spermathecae, near the opening are small appendages (bursae).

Distribution. — Found in two localities on Mount Gedeh, south of Bogor in West Java.

Etymology. — In honour of Vincent and Barbara Roth; in memory of Vince, who died in the time when I was preparing this chapter.
